Baštalište is the first garden community in Serbia advocating and promoting urban agriculture and community / allotment gardening as a tool for ecological / economical / social and health development of local community and sustainable cities.
We like to see Baštalište as the community of urban gardeners, as well as the collective organic garden.
The vision of Baštalište is the establishment of urban community gardens system in a framework of local community development plans by following the principle “One municipality, one Baštalište (Community Garden)”.
Our garden is situated at the entrance of Slаnci, only 10 km outside of central Belgrade. The size of Baštalište is 20 acres in total with 22 individual plots of around 40 square meters each that are available to our members throughout the season. On these plots, we are exclusively producing organic vegetables by using principles of organic production and permaculture. Vegetables that we produce are for our personal needs and as a present for our friends. In our collective garden rules the spirit of solidarity, teamwork, respect and tolerance.
We invest our time and resources in the development of Baštalište.
Activities at the Baštalištu are supported by: Danijela Pavićević, professional associate for organic production, volunteers, WWOOFers, pupils from local primary school “Ivan Milutinović” and local people from Slanci.
The wider framework of Baštalište implies raising awareness of professional, political and the general public about the importance and benefits of community gardens, as well as their promotion as tools for ecological, economic, social and health development of cities.
